Nineties? No, that was so last season! This Seasons influence is coming at you from the decade of extremes, the 80’s.
Yes, that means a combination of OTT hairstyles, makeup, puffed sleeves and ruffles with power, sleek ponytails and minimalism. This Seasons trends allow you to go a little wild and if nothing else, have fun with your fashion.
So here are a few key looks to get you inspired…
Spring always means an influx of colour and this season you will be seeing a lot of fuchsia, red and yellow. Don’t be afraid to clash your colours either. Rules like never wear pink with red have been flipped on their head and the designers are saying; break the rules, wear pink with red.
Gingham has made a comeback this season with the classic black and white check leading the way but you will also see some red and white popping up. Stripes are making more of a statement with bold, wider prints in blue but also in colours and there are a lot of diagonals, especially in skirts.
It wouldn’t be spring without blossoming florals, but this season there is no such thing as too much floral with designers like Balenciaga flaunting complete outfits (including shoes) in the same floral.
Athlesia has shifted slightly from the leggings as pant look to making tracksuit pants an acceptable, everyday look. Princess punk is the term used to describe mixing the flowy, floral, frilly and sheer fabric dresses with edgy, tough looking boots and accessories.
The pajama trend is another new look coming through. You can do it with striped, wide leg trousers teamed with matching kimono tops or slip dresses and long kimono’s which look fabulous with jeans as well. For those of us who cant buy in to the “in your face fashion”, minimalism is your saviour. Team high waisted, wide legged trousers and shorts with simple basic t-shirts and tops in monotones or block colour.
If you know anything about the 80’s it is that shoulders were big and we are seeing a lot of feature shoulders this season. The bigger the better!! Not only are they big but shoulders are also being exposed, not as much in the cold shoulder and off the shoulder styles that we saw last season but now in the asymmetrical or one sleeve look.
Move over chokers and statement necklaces, the statement earring is taking over. The big shoe trends include mules, slides, sock boots and the kitten heel has made a comeback.. And while you are adorning the feet, pop on a pair of ankle socks and you will be on point. Small shoulder bags are what you should be carrying around this spring in particular round straw or semicircle cane bags.
So there you have it! Hopefully there is something there for you, but first and foremost remember to always dress true to your personality and body shape and wear what makes you happy.
