So, what is trending for SS16?
As always, at this time of year, we are seeing an influx of colour, pattern and femininity as retailers stock up for spring racing. There is also a strong Nineties influence filtering through. Which I absolutely love!
From this decade’s trend comes the return of “underwear as outerwear”: slip dresses and camisoles, which are also being layered over t-shirts for more of a daytime look.
We are also seeing a lot of (and again these are VERY Nineties) chokers. A choker (like the one I am wearing in the video below) is the key accessory for any outfit to define the neckline and we are seeing many chokers, mainly blacks and nudes, in a range of fabrics to compliment an outfit and take it up a notch. The neck wrap (pictured below) came in last season but it still a great accessory this SS16. Some retailers are calling these chokers also. Either way, they both look stunning!
High waisted jeans in skinny leg are also back as is the more relaxed “Mum jean” as well as soft tailoring, made from flowing fabric and lace, bringing a romantic, feminine feel to Spring.
Necklines scream shoulders! If you haven’t noticed, off the shoulder, asymmetrical, cutouts and cold shoulders are everywhere. Bold prints, bright colours, have fun with your shoulders peaking out!
Have fun, step outside your comfort zone and enjoy the trends, but always dress for your body type and if you’re not sure what that is book in with me for a personal styling session to find out!
Also remember, looking and feeling great is not only about how we dress. Eating well and exercising is vital for a healthy mind and body. With summer only a few weeks away, now is a great time to reboot your eating habits and get moving!
