The one thing we all crave as parents is a good night’s sleep. Not just for us, for our children too because, let’s face it, we all know it’s a snowball effect. If the kids sleep well, we sleep well.
My first born Lenny was a terrible sleeper. Looking back I have no one to blame but myself. We used to have to cuddle him to sleep, rock him to sleep, sing him to sleep, it was so tiring, draining and stressful with my anxiety levels peaking at an all time high around 6pm each night when I knew the dreaded sleep routine was about to begin and we would soon be commando crawling out of his bedroom stealth style!
One thing that really stood out to me after doing some research on sleep routines for babies was the reoccurring theme of bedroom temperature. You see, I hadn’t really considered this to be a factor as to why he wasn’t sleeping properly before. I always figured he was just over tired or hungry but the more I read, the more I realised that a child’s comfort during the night, not too hot, not too cold, was a major factor when it came to a good night’s sleep.
We now have three children to put to bed each night, each with their own sleep requirements. Our younger two, Stella and Hazel both have dummies and teddies for bed and Lenny likes to sleep with his salt lamp on, so the one thing I make sure, as the parent, is that they are all warm and cosy with just the right amount of bedding and sleep wear to suit the temperature of their bedrooms. This is often a challenge for us because my kids have always been horizontal sleepers and within a few hours of going to bed I can find them upside down or sideways with pillows and doona covers all over the floor.
This is why when I was asked to trial the new Sleepy Company X-Tend sleep suit I was really excited. I have always used sleeping bags on the kids as babies but since becoming toddlers, I have had to rely on “warm” pajamas which are just not enough when they kick their covers off. The X-Tend sleep suit though has eliminated this problem as it’s literally like wearing a sleeping bag to bed but it has arms and legs so the kids can move about in it with ease. But the best thing is, if you haven’t already gathered from the name, this suit extends! So, there’s no need to buy a new one next year! I simply need to unpick the special X-Tend stitching and viola! The suit becomes the next size up! Genius!
Aside from the ease of transforming the suit to the next size up, some of my other favourite features of the Sleepy Company X-Tend sleep suit are –
Clearly this product was designed by a parent because it seriously has everything you could ever want in a sleep suit! Great for any weather, on warmer nights you can just wear a singlet underneath and on cooler nights you can wear full pajamas – they are very roomy so you can pop lots of layers underneath if need be.
We have used it heaps over the past few weeks, it has been perfect for late dinners at Nana’s house because we simply slip on over her pajamas, take her home and pop her straight into bed.
If I really have to find something about the product to pick at, it would only be that Stella wasn’t the biggest fan of the yellow material because, well, everything Stella wears has to be pink! So colour aside, this mama gives it two thumbs up!
