Lying in bed last night it dawned on me that tomorrow (today!) is NYE which means New Year resolutions! The usual came to mind, eat less, exercise more, save more money, spend more time with family and friends…
But this year, I want to really better myself as a person and BE THE BEST ME I CAN BE!
It might sound corny but I can’t expect my husband and children to be at their best if I’m not leading by example! I seriously notice a huge difference in the household when I’m happy, organised and content, the family feeds off this and become happy and content too (not organised, that’s still up to me to organise everyone!)
So here are my New Year resolutions for 2016 which I hope not only benefit me but those surrounding me too.
LISTEN HARDER –
I love having a good chat but am I really listening? You see, I get super excited in conversations and the next thing I know I’ve been talking and talking and not really paying attention to what the other person has to say…or I’m on the computer checking my emails and the kids are trying to tell me something and my first reaction is “not now, mummy’s busy” We’ve all been there…so this year I am going to try and be a better listener, stop what I am doing, look at the person in the eyes and really take in what they are saying.
GET TO KNOW & CARE ABOUT MY COMMUNITY –
This is what Mama loves to share is all about! We are so lucky to live in such a fantastic community! The beaches, the shops, the activities, the services available…this year I want to grow my community knowledge, live local – shop local and also get involved with some local charitable organisations, if everyone does their bit then our community can only thrive!
SAY ‘NO’ MORE OFTEN –
I must admit, I am currently suffering from end of year burn out a lot worse than I have in other years…2 children, a job, launching MLTS, sitting on various committees, keeping the house clean and tidy, kinder commitments etc, etc…next year I will be prioritizing what I say yes to and making sure I leave some time for me!
I honestly can’t remember the last time I sat down to read a good book (reading Wombat Stew & Where’s Wally every single night does not count!) this year I am going to make sure I take the time to read! A good short story, a novel, the Sunday paper magazine, anything! I miss reading! Scrolling through my Facebook feed every night is let’s face it, pretty mind numbing! So in the new year I’m off to the library! Any good book recommendations are most welcome!
STOP MAKING EXCUSES –
This one is pretty self explanatory…I have to stop making excuses! Too tired, too busy, I need to do this first, maybe tomorrow….stop stop stop! This is particularly applicable when it comes to playing with the kids! The joy they get when I sit on the floor and play Lego (even for just 30mins!) instead of me saying “not now mummy’s busy” is priceless! The housework can wait!
PLAY MORE OFTEN –
This follows on perfectly from stop making excuses! It’s time to find my inner child and remember how to have fun again, especially with the kids! Jump on the tramp (if my pelvic floor permits it?) play hide and seek, colour in, water fights, play board games, laugh more – school holidays is a perfect opportunity to work on this one!
STAY ORGANISED –
I am probably one of the most organised people you will ever meet with diaries and planners and lists for my lists but staying organised is hard work! This year I want to work on my meal planning which is one area I currently lack organisation in. Having a shopping list each week and sticking to it, planning what’s for dinner each night and no more late night trips to Coles to buy school lunches I have totally under catered for at the start of the week!
So that’s it! And I have all of you to keep me accountable! I will also try and squeeze in some traditional resolutions like eat less exercise more but let’s be honest, they will probably only last a week… however now I have to stop making excuses…..
Happy New Year!
