Well that month went very, very fast! Before we knew it, May was over. But that doesn’t mean the concept of our May is for Me campaign has to end. It’s only just the beginning and we would love for you to continue to make time to look after yourself, no matter what the month.
On May 1st, we set out to start a movement, encouraging all mama’s, no matter their lifestyles or how crazy their day-to-day chaos is, to take some me-time. It was a campaign to help inspire and remind you that you are not just Mum but a person who has likes and dislikes, enjoys quiet time, a sneaky massage, a pedicure, a trip to the hair dressers or a coffee with a friend. You deserve to look after you and the more you do it, the better you and the rest of your family will feel. You also deserve to do it without feeling any pang of guilt! Not one single guilty feeling should be entering your mind when you take some time for yourself to do something you enjoy.
We gave you permission in May to say (or even scream it throughout the house if necessary!); “May is for Me!”. We all know that everyday life can easily get in the way of ‘me-time’ when it’s spent caring for everyone else, making sure everyone is at school on time, the fridge is full, the kids have clothes that fit, keeping doctors appointments, the house tidy and that you’re not late to after school soccer training or dance classes.
There’s so much running around to do that spare time (if we ever have any) is spent cleaning up, sorting washing, ironing (ok so we rarely iron!), emptying the dishwasher, drop offs and pick ups or simply just preparing, organising and over-thinking about what needs to be done the next day.
Then the same old story repeats itself again and again, day after day, until in a moment – a tired, desperate, lost moment – all of that built up busyness, hits us hard and we come crashing down with a meltdown, a sickness, an injury, a permanent grumpy face, weight gain or relationship woes. We have forgotten to take care of us and it takes its toll. Not just on us but on the rest of the family too.
This is why we decided to launch May is for Me and why so many Mama’s jumped on board our campaign, tagging us and using the hashtag #mayisforme in their ‘me-time’ moments. It made us so happy to see Mama’s venturing out for drinks with friends, getting their hair done after months of neglect or visiting a parlour for a quick foot massage.
During the campaign we also ran a series of blogs, including many with professional contributors, to help you get inspired to reintroduce health, happiness, balance and wellbeing back into your life. Whether you needed some fashion inspo, some tips on refreshing your beauty regime, a bit of nutrition insight to get you back on track with your healthy eating or some helpful hints on how to relax, we hope you got some inspiration and motivation to reintroduce some time to look after you back into your life.
