It’s the end of April. Almost the middle of 2019. How did this happen!? We all have such good intentions in January for a productive, healthy year don’t we? Good food, plenty of fresh air and exercise, quiet cups of tea in the garden, “me time”. But truth is, us mama’s are drowning… drowning in the whirlpool of productivity and health for anyone but ourselves!
If your family is anything like ours, then you have probably already racked up a few hundred Km’s in “Mums Taxi” this year, taking the kids to the doctors, the dentist, the optometrist, the audiologist, the kinesiologist, the naturopath… They’ve had immunisations, flu jabs, travel jabs, physio, one kid’s even had their shoes properly fitted by a podiatrist and another has been to see a counselor to make sure their mental health is being given the attention it needs… phew! It’s safe to say, when it comes to making sure our kid’s health is on top of our priority lists, we’ve all well and truly been kicking goals. In fact, you’re probably smashing appointments left right and centre for them, you’ve even made a few appointments for Hubby! You’re a machine Mama, well done!
But hang on… aren’t we forgetting someone? Whose the most important person whose own health and well being needs attention? Whose the person running on empty? The person whose health you’ve been meaning to put first but just haven’t got around to it? Whose the super integral part of the family you promised you would take care of in this year of productivity but you just “haven’t had time”, instead making excuse after excuse that “you’ll get around to it one day soon”. Whose health is just as important as the kids and yet you’ve pushed much needed appointments to the back of the ‘To Do’ list to make room for theirs?
Well, we are excited to announce that our annual May is for Me campaign is back for 2019 and this year we are pushing past the “stop and grab a coffee” and the “buy yourself a bunch of flowers”. This year we are focusing on women’s health. Your health. With the theme being – No more excuses. This May is for Me has been designed to FORCE you to think about you and in particular, all of those “annoying” appointments you’ve been putting off. We all have ‘good’ reasons for not looking after ourselves, for not getting that mole/lump/bruise/vein/toenail/tooth checked that we’ve been meaning to get checked for the past 6/10/18 months… we get it, we are all busy Mums! How can we possibly fit in one more person to look after?
Well, this May we are calling bullshit (in the nicest possible way!), it’s time to put the bullshit excuses aside and make the time! No more excuses! It’s time to get that lump checked, get that sore tooth looked at, stop complaining about blurry eye site and open your legs for the doctor and get that pap smear you were supposed to have 12 months ago! Virtual whip in hand, we will be here to support you and remind you that now is the time to stop, pick up the phone and make all those health appointments you have been putting off for a long, long time AND as well as being here hollering and preaching at you all about just how important it is to look after you (the mama, the wife, the partner, the employee, the employer, the machine!) we too will be joining you on this month of health and wellness checks.
We pledge to also stop making excuses when it comes to our health. We are going to put it first, whether we have all three kids with us or not, whether we are working, whether we have a million after school sports to drop off the kids to, we too are going to tend to our precious, beautiful bodies, mind’s and soul’s. It’s time to straighten our captain hats and get the good health ship sailing again. No more excuses.
