MAMA LOVES – MISSION ORIGINAL TORTILLA STRIPS!
There’s something so “moreish” about Doritos, CC’s or Tortilla Chips, whatever you like to call them. Once I open the packet I can’t stop at just 10, I’ve just got to consume (inhale) the rest of the packet. If I know they’re in the pantry and especially if the packet is already open, the whole thing is gone in a matter of minutes. The kids and hubby are the same – they are a huge winner in our house. In fact, I’m crunching on some now! I couldn’t help it!
Obviously the biggest problem with this addiction for me and my concern for the the rest of the family is the health (fat) and nutritional content of most of the packets you get from the supermarket. They are chock full of calories, preservatives, additives and all sorts of nasty numbers that I can’t even begin to understand. They are sometimes foods and we need to be mindful of that.
So, when I started researching more about the food I was consuming last year (around the time I cut down on about 90% of my sugar intake and upped my clean eating by about 60%), I found these: Mission Original Tortilla Strips, White Corn, Authentic Mexican Tortilla Strips in the Mexican aisle. I’d never seen them before! Probably because they weren’t with all the other corn chips in the chip aisle (the one I try so hard not to walk down because if I do I know I will crumble and fall to my knees in surrender) but instead on their little lonesome, in a gorgeous paper bag on the top shelf above burritos and taco’s.
When I read the back of the packet, I was surprised to discover they were pretty low in sugar, salt and carbs, compared to many others. Naturally I was skeptical their taste might match their healthiness, as does a lot of the healthier manmade try-hard-to-be-healthy options, and resemble nothing more than some cardboard with a bit of salt sprinkled on top.
But I was wrong! OH. SO. WRONG! They were DELISH! And just as “moreish” as any of the other all time popular fave’s we have grown up with in the 90s and beyond, but without the huge salt and fat content. I was wrapped and now I am hooked!
So, of course, they had to go straight to the pool room as one of Mama’s Love’s of the Week.
I’ve even made a tasty tomato salsa to go….
….sorry got distracted there for a minute and started drooling like Homer Simpson. I’ve even made a tasty tomato salsa to go with them.
I hope you love these Tortilla Strips as much as we do and enjoy the homemade salsa to dip them into! It’s the perfect Saturday (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday….) snack for the whole family.
