MAMA LOVES – SMILING MIND APP.
I’ve been using the Smiling Mind App for quite some time now to help bring me back down to earth amongst the crazy chaos that is my life (I know you are all in the same boat!).
Smiling Mind is an app focusing on mindfulness and meditation. It helps me with my anxiety and even when I feel a panic attack coming on, I know it’s my little escape sitting there waiting, always available, for me to refocus my mind and help me take back control of my own thoughts.
Annabelle, 6, is very much like me. Her mind takes her to deep places she doesn’t need to go, she worries, she’s sensitive and she gets anxious when her mind gets overwhelmed with thoughts. So, when I discovered Smiling Minds had teamed up with Cloud Guy (the ridiculously cute, funny cloud character from the Trolls movie, pictured), I knew I had to have a listen with Annabelle and see if Smiling Mind would now appeal more to her age and demographic.
Cloud Guy talks for about four minutes – with the option of relaxing background music to add if you wish – introducing himself and telling the listener a range of things they could try to help themselves feel happier and calmer such as giving yourself a big hug or taking a look at the things in your life that make you happy.
Annabelle was pretty much hooked straight away. I think partly because she loves the Trolls movie, partly because I let her have my iPhone in bed for five minutes with the ear phones (that never happens unless we are camping or she’s in bed in a strange place) and partly because it helped her relax and reflect on the happy things that happened that day.
It’s a winner! So far she’s listened to it five nights in a row and has told me how much she loves it. She’s eager to go to bed and listen to her “Cloud Guy” (how often are kids EAGER to go to bed!!). She even said last night she feels “happy and relaxed” after it! Bingo!!
It’s such a great idea, we hope Smiling Mind teams up with some more characters to help kids feel inspired to listen and to create a little “go to” place where they can escape the franticness that is this day and age.
Perhaps they even need to make one for the ladies to listen to and unwind… Hmmm imagine listening to the docile tones of Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Roger Corser or whoever’s voice tickles your fancy… hint, hint Smiling Mind I could be onto another winner!
Happy mindfulness Mama’s (and baba’s).
