MAMA LOVES – COLES QUICK OATS
There’s just something so comforting about porridge. You either love the sticky white mush or you hate it. Lucky for me, in my household, the rest of the family share my love of the delicious warm rations and there are no haters here. In fact we love it so much we eat it every second day, even in Summer!
As natures supergrain, oats provide nourishment as well as a great taste plus they are rich in beta-glucan, which helps to naturally lower cholesterol re-absorption. It’s also nice to know you are eating something wholesome for breakfast that has ABSOLUTELY no additives, just 100% oats.
We cook our porridge (2 cups feeds the four of us) on the stove with both milk and water (1 cup of milk and about 2.5 cups of water). Once cooked to the texture we are happy with, we mix with a large handful of frozen berries (we like blueberries or raspberries). This helps to cool the porridge down, thus serving it quicker if you need to get out the door quickly on school and work days!
WE also love our porridge served with bananas, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey. Sooooooooooo good!
For years I have been a huge fan of the Uncle Tobys brand of Quick Oats and ignorantly turned my nose up at the idea of a cheaper brand because I had grown up on Uncle Tobys and well, I felt I owed them my loyalty after all these years! But because we are a family of four now and I found I was buying the 1kg box of Uncle Tobys Quick Oats for $5.50 so often, I thought it was time to try the cheapest brand to compare.
Well let me tell you, Coles Quick Oats did not disappoint! At just $1.60 for 900g it has won our vote. I didn’t tell the rest of the family that I had made the swap and no-one could tell the difference, including me. It was exactly the same.
You can also use these oats in smoothies, cakes, protein balls and heaps of other recipes.
