THE PERFECT (BUDGET!) AUSTRALIANA CHRISTMAS

Posted by Helen on 09 Dec 2017 / 0 Comment

There is nothing more welcoming than a beautifully set Christmas dining room table. You can set the table a few weeks before Christmas leaving the centre piece out to add some festive cheer to your home and then simply bring items like the crockery and glasses out when you have guests come over to eat.

I had such a fun time during the week participating in a Kmart styling challenge where I had to decorate a Christmas dining table using Kmart products.

The best thing about this table setting is I have kept everything neutral, so take away some of the really Christmasy touches, and you can use all the pieces I have chosen, all year round.

Use greenery from your garden to help create a beautiful native centre piece. I used gum leaves to give the table an Australiana feel, complimented with red baubles and native flower cuttings to add colour and interest.

LED candles add ambiance to the table without being a fire hazard! Perfect for families with children, they look gorgeous switched on at night and can be safely used in other areas of your home.

This linen look charcoal tablecloth feels rich in texture adding depth to the table. I love the stark contrast against the metallic silver place mats and charcoal hides the gravy stains better than white!

The spliced dinner plates and pasta bowls are a really neutral piece that can be used throughout the year. Instead of buying a matching side plate, I decided to go with these small acacia wood paddle boards which compliment my Australiana theme. They make perfect little bread plates and can also be used as individual cheese boards at the end of the meal.

Bringing a similar feel to the table is this round wooden serving platter. It has various uses (I placed the candles on mine) and would be perfect used as a cheese/nibbles board.

Cloth napkins add a touch of sophistication to the table, tie around some glittery tinsel then add a sprig of greenery (I used blue gum) to really add a festive touch.

Break up the table by introducing a complimentary colour to your neutral pallet. These little charcoal milk pourers are ever so sweet and are just the right size for a nip of eggnog or baileys at the end of the meal.

I was asked by Kmart Australia to participate in a #kmartstylechallenge where I was given a $150 budget to set a Christmas dinging room table. This is my take on the perfect “Australiana” Christmas setting.
