The older our kids get, the more they seem to have on their plates. School, extra curricular activities, homework, play dates etc etc… life does anything but slow down once the kids grow up, it only becomes busier, quicker, faster. There is just so much more going on around us that kids have to process nowadays. The fast pace lifestyle we now live can definitely be stressful for little minds so it’s no wonder that some children’s stress, energy and anxiety levels are regularly heightened.
I know I personally spot some of these tendencies in both my girls, in particular Annabelle and so I try to give the girls “time out” days as often as possible. Days where we have no activities on after school, no play dates, no shopping, no homework. Days where they can simply choose what they would like to do, allowing them to relax and recharge. These “time out” days are usually spent lying on the couch, listening to music, puzzles, drawing, reading, playing in the cubby, making craft.
I am also a big believer in food being a contributing factor to a child’s overall wellbeing and so I encourage healthy eating with my children to keep them strong in mind and body. Eating the right foods and ensuring they receive the right nutrients from vegetables, whole grains, fruit, meat and dairy is vital for their little minds, helping keep them to stay de-stressed and their anxiety levels low. Another product I have recently been introduced to and look forward to try with the girls to help supplement their “time out” days and balanced diet is Caruso’s Kids Calm & Behaviour.
When Helen and I attended the Kids Business Bloggers Brunch in Sydney a few weeks ago we were introduced to Australian and family owned company Caruso’s Natural Health, and were lucky enough to hear their founder, Frank Caruso speak about his business journey, how he got to where he is today and his passion for good health. Caruso’s has a range of complementary medicines (vitamin & herbal supplements) and natural foods but it was their kids products and in particular the Kids Calm & Behaviour powder that was of particular interest to us because it has been specially formulated for behaviour, stress, mild anxiety, irritability, sleeplessness and relaxation in children, some of which behaviours, in particular stress and mild anxiety, I recognise in my own little six-year-old worrier.
Annabelle struggles to fall asleep at night and is often still awake more than an hour after she’s gone to bed. The main culprit (and something I suffer from myself) is over thinking. Her little mind is over-stimulated from all the things she has done that day and all the things she has to do tomorrow. I’ve been told I have an over-active nervous system so it seems Annabelle is a lot like her mum. So when I saw this product at the Bloggers Brunch I had to know more about it and was keen to give it a go.
It’s key minerals are magnesium which is essential for the central nervous system and has a calming effect and Zinc which takes part in 100s of reactions in the body and is involved in the functioning of the central nervous system, brain development and normal healthy growth.
The Kids Calm Behaviour is also chock full of antioxidants and vitamin C so I feel as though adding this to both the girls’ diet once a day can only be a bonus! It also helps me feel better knowing that even though I may not be able to slow down or change the pace of our busy lives, this product will potentially assist their growing minds and bodies and help them cope with this fast paced world around them.
I’m looking forward to giving it a try!
