The 1st of January brings with it many things…mainly a hangover, well, it did pre children! It also brings a fresh start and exciting goals for the year ahead…the latter helped by making a list of New Year resolutions! The usual come to mind, eat less, exercise more, save more money, spend more time with family and friends…
But this year, we want to really better ourselves as people and BE THE BEST ME WE CAN BE!
It might sound corny but we can’t expect our husbands and children to be at their best if we are not leading by example! We seriously notice a huge difference in our households when we are happy, organised and content, the family feeds off this and become happy and content too (not organised, that’s still up to us to organise everyone!)
So here are Mama loves to share’s New Year resolutions for 2017 which we hope not only benefit us but those surrounding us too.
LISTEN HARDER –
We love having a good chat but are we really listening? You see, we get super excited in conversations and the next thing we know we’ve been talking and talking and not really paying attention to what the other person has to say…or we’re on the computer checking our emails and the kids are trying to tell us something and our first reaction is “not now, mummy’s busy” We’ve all been there…so this year we are going to try and be better listeners, stop what we are doing, look the person speaking to us in the eyes and really take in what they are saying.
GET TO KNOW & CARE ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY –
This is what Mama loves to share is all about! We are so lucky to live in such a fantastic community! The beaches, the shops, the activities, the services available…this year we want to grow our community knowledge, live local – shop local and also get involved with some local charitable organisations, if everyone does their bit then our community can only thrive! We also plan to implement a community notice board onto our website so that small businesses/kinders/schools etc… can advertise their events/fetes/fundraisers etc… stay tuned for that!
SAY ‘NO’ MORE OFTEN –
We both admit, we are currently suffering from end of year burn out a lot worse than we have in other years…5 children between us, part time jobs, working on MLTS plus various other social media accounts, sitting on committees, keeping our houses clean and tidy etc etc… this year we have decided to be extra picky about what we say yes to and making sure we leave some time for ourselves!
We honestly can’t remember the last time either of us sat down to read a good book (reading Wombat Stew & Where’s Wally every single night does not count!) this year we are going to make sure we take the time to read! A good short story, a novel, the Sunday paper magazine, anything! We miss reading! So in the new year we are off to the library! Any good book recommendations are most welcome!
STOP MAKING EXCUSES –
This one is pretty self explanatory…We have to stop making excuses! Too tired, too busy, need to do this first, maybe tomorrow….stop stop stop! This is particularly applicable when it comes to playing with the kids! The joy they get when you sit on the floor and play Lego (even for just 20mins!) instead of saying “not now, mummy’s busy” is priceless! The housework can wait!
PLAY MORE OFTEN –
This follows on perfectly from stop making excuses! It’s time to find our inner child and remember how to have fun again, especially with the kids! Jump on the tramp (if pelvic floors permit it!) play hide and seek, colour in, water fights, play board games, laugh more – school holidays are the perfect opportunity to work on this one!
STAY ORGANISED –
We are probably two of the most organised people you will ever meet with diaries and planners and lists for our lists but staying organised is hard work! This year we want to work on our meal planning which is one area we currently lack organisation in. Having a shopping list each week and sticking to it, planning what’s for dinner each night and no more late night trips to Coles to buy school lunches we have totally under catered for at the start of the week!
So that’s it! And we have all of you to keep us accountable! We will also try and squeeze in some traditional resolutions like eat less exercise more but let’s be honest, they will probably only last a week… however now we have to stop making excuses…..
What are your New Year resolutions?
